Biglin Boys' Room Gets New Look

The boys had some water damage on the ceiling,
and that yellow and green paint had to go.

Here's the before.

This wall had 'frames' wallpaper from The Land of Nod.

The boys loved drawing on the wallpaper
but after 5 years, the novelty wore off.

The Christmas tree is one of my favorites.

We sprayed the paper with equal parts vinegar and hot water.
After a few minutes, it peeled off easily.

It took a couple hours to clear the bottom half.
Use a wet sponge to get off any little leftover bits.

I was afraid that the water/vinegar mixture would drip down to the
Martha Stewart alphabet cards.

Installing cork over the wallpaper was an option but
it'd be difficult to clean and might look shabby after a while.

So this is my solution:

I can't stand  tape on the walls.
Magnets on sheet metal is a better way for the boys to hang their art and posters.

A sheet of 3X4 cost us $18 from Home Depot.  We used 4 sheets.

I freshened up the trim with Benjamin Moore's Linen White
in Aquaglo (semi-gloss).

The charcoal grey on the bottom is a custom color.
The one I chose was too light, so they darkened it for me.

The top color is Grey Owl from Benjamin Moore, and it's perfect.

The sheet metal still needs to be trimmed out in quarter round, but it looks awesome!
And it's functional and easy to clean.

The bottom half of this wall is painted with chalkboard paint.
The cool chair is from Kevin's grandparent's basement.

The Rugby Canvas Storage Totes are from Pottery Barn Kids.

The dressers are HEMNES from Ikea.

The wooden stool is from Target's new line, Threshold.

The rug is from Joss&Main and really ties the room together.

Owen and Miles came home from a week long camping trip to see their 'new' room.
They love it!
